COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Community development is the process of the expansion of liberties and responsibilities that people are able to enjoy. Some example of freedoms that define a dignified life include social participation, the right to education and sanitation, the fulfilment of one´s responsibilities as a citizen, and the formation of community protection mechanisms such as support networks that encourage personal growth, especially among vulnerable groups.

We seek to:

1. Contribute to social development in communities by guiding and training different health agents so to encourage leadership and social responsibility among these agents.

2. Generate inter-institutional alliances to unite the efforts of different social organizations involved in health and the fight against tuberculosis, especially in high-risk zones and among vulnerable populations.

Activities:

a) Coordination of different social groups to promote health and the fight against tuberculosis (TB).
ISDEN coordinates its work with the national TB control program (ESNPCT MINSA). For example, ISDEN participates in macro-regional evaluations throughout the country.
We work with grass-roots organizations and with health promoters. For example, we work with FEMOCCPAALM (a federation of organized women from community kitchens in metropolitan Lima that are dedicated to the right to an adequate diet, health, and social and gender equity, especially for impoverished women and children.) .
We work with health personnel involved in TB care in various health centers. We work with Associations of TB Patients (ASETs) such as ASET-Comas, the Red Solidaria de Enfermos de TB (Solidarity Network of TB Patients), and other such groups.
b) Education and training of social actors committed to the fight against TB.
We have trained health promoters in various regions of the country We have trained the leaders of organizations of TB patients.
We have trained health personnel in ethics, human rights, and the humanization of health care. The pastoral care agents have received specialized training in TB, which strengthens the impact they have on their communities.
We have done work with various grass-roots community organizations that are interested in health
